Tiger wrestlers compete well at state tournament

Five Aberdeen High School wrestlers took part in the Idaho State Wrestling Tournament held Friday and Saturday at Holt Arena in Pocatello.

Clancy Beck and Austin Anderson won both matches on Friday, Feb. 22, sending them to the semi-finals on Saturday. The opponents they beat on Friday to get to the semis were ranked number three (Clancy’s) and number two (Austin’s) so they both pulled off an upset. They lost their semi-finals match Saturday morning and that put them into the consolation bracket where they won their last match to take fifth place. They both wrestled five matches at the tournament.

Emiliano Anguiano and Rodrigo Cardona both wrestled two matches and lost. Rylan Beck won his first match and lost his second and third matches. They were out on Friday, but wrestled tough matches.

The team and their parents thank the coaches: Matt Noble, Calvin Bonzon and Jordan Johns. They say Aberdeen has some of the best coaches in the state of Idaho and are lucky to have them. They care about the kids on and off the mat and are invaluable to the program. They put in many long hours without pay and it is greatly appreciated by the team and their parents.
