To the editor,
As most of you have heard the American Falls Chamber of Commerce has stated that they will not be putting on a Fourth of July fireworks show due to lack of funds and volunteers. As a patriotic person, this news does not sit well with me. I had the honor of enjoying the Fourth of July festivities last year and I am sad and disappointed that the tradition cannot continue.
As a new member of this community I do not want to see this happen, American Falls is such a great place and many people come for the Fourth of July over the reservoir. I would like to see the tradition continue and grow into an amazing event that rivals Idaho Falls or Pocatello.
Willow bay Marina and Cafe would like to take the place of the Chamber of Commerce in providing the fireworks show, but unfortunately the money that was raised from last year is not available for us to use for the show. In order to provide a firework show we will need to get commitments of donations from businesses and citizens.
We have spoken to several firework companies and the cost would be $8,000 to $10,000 to put on a 30 minute show. In order to secure the fireworks they require half down by the end of March with the remainder due prior to the show. Unless we can get commitments of donations for at least $8,000 and the funds by the end of March we would not be able to do this.
Willow Bay will spearhead the donations and provide the people needed for the festivities. For this year we are asking you for donations, with the plan of doing numerous fundraisers throughout the year and asking for donations on the Fourth of July. We anticipate that through these fundraisers we will have the money for the show each year, but we need monetary assistance for this year.
I thank you for your time and you commitment of a donation to the American Falls Fourth of July celebration.
Chuck and Jennifer Carroll
