Trustees nix vote on length of school week

Aberdeen School District Board of Trustees met and decided via conference call Tuesday, Feb. 26, to not ask for a vote of patrons on whether the school district should have a five day or modified four/five day school week.

If the board had passed a resolution to do so, the issue would have been included on the May 21 election ballot. Trustees unanimously agreed not to put the calendar on the ballot.

They all agreed this was a big issue, but Marc Foster said he believed if the issue was put on the ballot it would set a precedent for the decisions the board will need to make in the future. They may be faced with other issues in the future that, if they put this to a vote, they will have to put future issues to a vote.

Elaine Blik said they need to have more community meetings with input like they had on Friday, Feb. 22.

After the vote was made, the meeting was adjourned until Wednesday, March 20, at 7 p.m. in the district board room.
