Eight boys and two girls from American Falls High School are heading to the high school state track meet in Middleton, ID, on Thursday through Saturday, May 16 through 18.
The boys’ relay team, consisting of Jordan Schutt, Miguel Ortiz, Missael Brambila and Sander Saiz will go to state in both the 100 meter and 200 meter relays. They took first at district in both events, with 45.18 in the 100 meter and 1:35.37 in the 200 meter.
Other boys’ first place finishes include Tony Hall in the high jump with a 5’8” jump, and Saiz in the long jump with a 20’5” jump. Saiz will also be going to state in the 100 meter race. He took third at the district meet with a time of 11.74.
Brambila also took second in the 200 meter race for a place at state with a time of 24.21. Schutt took third in the same race, with a time of 12.03, and a place at state as well. Ortiz took second in the 100 meter race with a time of 11.74 and will be competing in that event at state.
Austin Patterson will be going to state in both the 110 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles after taking second in both events. Dakota Hitesman will go to state in the triple jump after taking second at district with a distance of 38’10”.
Senior Ethan Funk is the only thrower headed to state. Funk qualified for the state meet in discuss with a throw of 128’ 9”.
On the girls’ team, Maria Sanchez will go to state after placing third in the district high jump with a height of 4’6”. Hannah Pratt will go to state after placing third in the 100 meter race with a time of 13.26 and third in the 200 meter race with a time 27.59.
Overall, the boys took third place at the four team meet, with the girls taking fourth. Their times were not as fast as they were in the regular season, said Coach Pat Patterson, and hopefully they will be able to perform better at state.
