Trustees tap Travis Hansen as new principal at AFHS

American Falls High School assistant principal/activities director Travis Hansen has been selected to fill the position of principal at American Falls High School, according to American Falls School District President Bruce Hauber and Superintendent Ron Bolinger.

Hansen replaces retiring Principal Jeff Read.

Bolinger said Hansen’s personality made him stand out from the rest of the candidate pool.

“Travis’ passion for the education profession and this community, along with his training and experience, we believe, make him an excellent fit for the position. Those factors also really made him rise above the other candidates,” said Bolinger.

The six-week search for Read’s successor gathered 11 applicants from around the district and region. An 11 member input committee helped narrow the field to two candidates. After interviews with Hansen and the other finalist the school board made the final selection.

Bolinger said the selection of Hansen should make for a smooth transition.

“The fact that he is already in house and only eight steps away from Jeff will make the transition much easier on students and staff,” said Bolinger.

The school district will now begin the task of filling the assistant principal/activities director position.

Hansen is following the path of his predecessor closely. Like Read, Hansen began his career with the American Falls School District in 2007 as a teacher at William Thomas Middle School before moving to an administration position at the high school.
