Julian Gallegos was recently awarded a wrestling scholarship from Jamestown College in Jamestown, ND. Jamestown College competes in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and has a varsity athletic wrestling program. The coach, C.J. Campbell, flew over from North Dakota to have Gallegos sign a letter of intent.
Gallegos was ecstatic about this opportunity granted to him by the college.
“It is a dream come true. I have been dreaming about this since I was little. I have always wanted to do something bigger,” said Gallegos.
American Falls High School wrestling coach Jim Giulio spoke to Campbell about Gallegos and his value as a team member.
“Not only is he a great wrestler, he’s a great human being. He’s a leader. He will rally the troops,” said Giulio.
Campbell said that his first experience seeing Gallegos was at the state wrestling tournament.
“The first good look I got of Julian was at the state finals. I saw explosiveness and raw talent. The state championship speaks for itself; I know what kind of talent comes out of Idaho,” said Campbell.
In regards to what Gallegos will bring to the team Campbell said Gallegos will strengthen his team roster.
“I think he will help strengthen our line up in the top end. He will have a great opportunity to make an impact on our team,” said Campbell.
Gallegos gave his thanks to everyone who has helped him though his high school years and offered a special shoutout to his coach and oncoming wrestlers.
“I appreciate everyone helping me out. I want to thank coach Giulio for treating me like his own son. I would have never accomplished half of my goals without the mental toughness he granted me. I can’t wait to see the new upcoming wrestlers and I know coach Giulio will get them to be state championship ready,” said Gallegos.
Gallegos plans to enroll in Jamestown College’s four-year Criminal Justice program.
