Independence Day was the start of a new tradition in American Falls. The Greater American Falls Area Chamber of Commerce along with the Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce and a number of local sponsors hosted the first Boat Poker Run on the American Falls Reservoir.
Participants traveled the reservoir gathering playing cards to compile the best possible poker hand. Players also earned draw cards by making purchases at local businesses.
The winning hand was compiled by Lisa Funk, who had a 10-high spade flush. Funk won $320 from the progressive jackpot.
Colby Funk took second place with a pair of 10s netting him a cooler full of gift certificates and snacks from American Falls businesses.
Wyatt Croft won the low-hand prize with an ace-high hand. Croft got a one night stay and dinner package from Cactus Pete’s Casino in Jackpot, NV.
While water levels were a concern chamber member and poker run organizer Jacklyn Taylor said the event will be bigger next year.
“This was a great start and even with the water level there were a lot of boaters on the reservoir. Now that people have an idea of what the poker run is we anticipate the event will grow next year,” said Taylor.
