The American Falls High School wrestling team split their duals on Thursday, Jan. 9, in Shelley, picking up a win against Shelley and falling to Teton.
The Beavers started the night by facing Teton and falling 59-27 to the Redskin wrestlers.
Coach Jim Giulio said the dual was a learning experience for the team.
“This match should have been a lot closer. In four different matches A.F. wrestlers were ahead by five or more points and ended up getting pinned. That is just unacceptable and not our wrestling style whatsoever. We win those four matches and we win that dual. The big thing is to learn off of our mistakes and keep getting better. If what we learn from this dual means we win a couple more matches come state time; I will take that any day of the week,” said Giulio.
Wrestlers Dilinger Fausett, Bryan Lankford, Travis Dahlke, Fernando Martinez and Kameron Prust all picked up wins against Teton.
The Beavers did not take long to show they had learned from their experiences against Teton. AFHS also wrestled the Shelley Russets. The Beavers picked up a commanding 71-18 win.
Dillinger Fausett, Jerimiah Barrola, Bryan Lankford, Logan McLean, Bo Hohenfield, Jeremy Glascock, Travis Dahlke, Fernando Martinez, Tate Grover, Kameron Prust, Dallen Adkins and Nathan DeLaCruz all won their matches against Shelley.
Guilio said the dual against the Russets was more indicitave of the American Falls way of wrestling.
“The boys came out firing against Shelley. They made sure the same mistakes were not made again. The dual only lasted 25 minutes because of some quick pins by some wrestlers seeking redemption,” said Giulio.
The American Falls High School wrestlers will have a week off before facing Jerome and Kimberly in Marsh Valley on Thursday, Jan. 23.
The annual Dahlke Tournament scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Jan. 17 and 18, has been canceled due to scheduling conflicts.
