The Rockland High School boys’ basketball team finished their season at the state tournament, losing to Summit Academy 56-40 and then to Dietrich 77-48.
The Bulldogs played Summit Academy on Thursday, March 6. The two teams traded baskets for a time, but Summit pulled ahead as they became more aggressive under the basket and Rockland had trouble making outside shots.
“We just couldn’t land an outside shot,” Coach Scott Lish said.
The Bulldogs went into the consolation bracket, where they played Dietrich on Friday, March 7. Lish said he thought the team played really well, much better than the score indicated.
The Bulldogs got into foul trouble though, sending Dietrich to the foul line 40 times while the Bulldogs only had ten chances at the foul line. With the more experienced players fouling out, Rockland fell behind farther and farther in the last moments of the game.
“We came in strong in both games. We just couldn’t sustain it,” Lish said.
With only Aaron Kirby graduating this year, Rockland will play with nearly the same team next year. Lish said they will focus on conference and the district tournament, but hopes they will be able to play at state again next year.
