The American Falls High School baseball team started their season in rough fashion this week falling to Kimberly and Sugar Salem.

The Beavers began their season on the road in Kimberly on Thursday, March 13. The Beavers fell 10-0. Coach Austin Williams said Kimberly picked up too many free scores.

“We had eight fielding errors that led directly to eight unearned runs for Kimberly,” said Williams.

On top of the errors Williams said the Kimberly pitching staff was having a strong day.

“At the same time Kimberly’s pitcher was having a great day and held us scoreless,” Williams said.

He said better glove work will help the Beavers control their opponent’s score.

“I am sure that as we clean up the errors in the field our results will improve,” Williams said.

The Beavers did clean up their fielding during their home opener at Magnuson Field on Friday, March 14, but it did not show on the scoreboard. The Beavers lost to the Diggers 14-0.

The Beavers did not give away as many free runs in their second game.

“We only had four errors. Unfortunately they led to four runs,” Williams said.

Pitching was a weak spot for the Beavers against Sugar Salem. Beaver pitchers walked eight, all leading to runs.

The Beavers will head to Malad on Thursday, March 20, and then return home on Friday, March 21, to host South Fremont beginning at 3:30 p.m.
