American Falls High School senior Lindsey Woodworth was chosen by the website IdahoSports.com as the 3A girls athlete of the year. Woodworth was a starter on the AFHS girls’ basketball team for three years. She also played on the girls’ Fifth District all-star team.
IdahoSports.com lists stats and scores of Idaho high school sports teams, as well as provide tournament information and sports commentary.
“I am extremely thankful to have been selected as one of the IdahoSports.com student athletes of the year. It is an honor to be recognized as a recipient and represent athletes across Idaho who succeed in both academics and athletics. When I discovered the outcome I was very, very surprised,” Woodworth wrote in a short biography featured on the website.
Woodworth was nominated by AFHS Assistant Principal Nathan Whittle.
“In my 14 years in education, I have never come across a student athlete who was as driven in academics, leadership, community service and athletics as Lindsey Woodworth,” wrote Whittle in his nomination.
Woodworth was Power County’s Young Women of Excellence and was AFHS’ valedictorian. She was also student body president her senior year and the East Magic Valley FFA president as well as co-captain of the basketball team.
She plans on attending Idaho State University on an academic scholarship and double majoring in finance and sports management. She plans on working on the family farm and coaching basketball.
She wrote that her favorite high school memory was playing in the district championship game as a senior.
“Businesses, teachers, students, families and friends, all from our small home town, came out to support us and during the game. The gym was so loud that we could hardly hear our coach yelling from the sidelines. The energy was unbelievable! The game itself was highly intense and my team had to depend on each other like never before,” Woodworth wrote.
