The American Falls High School boys’ soccer team apparently peeked at the right time.
Despite a rather lackluster regular season, the Beavers moved through the district playoffs with some impressive play to capture the Fifth District 3A title and along with it a trip to the state tournament.
The Beavers opened the district tournament against the Aberdeen Tigers and came away with a 2-0 victory. That win put them in the driver’s seat in the double elimination tournament, as they waited for other teams to knock each other off.
The Tigers lost in two matches and then Snake River knocked off Marsh Valley, eliminating the Eagles.
Having to win two against the Beavers, the Panthers and Beavers played a tough first game, with neither team scoring in the first 80 minutes of regulation. Following a hands call against the Beavers in overtime, Snake River took advantage and with the penalty kick won 1-0, forcing one more deciding match.
The Beavers were ready in the rematch against a Panther team that had battled through several extra matches. American Falls dominated on its way to a 4-0 victory and the district title.
American Falls kicks off its state tournament play against the Sixth District’s second seed in a match Thursday, Oct. 24, at 11 a.m. at Vallivue High School in Caldwell.
