Republican Ralph West has announced his candidacy for Bingham County Commissioner from District 2.
West is a longtime resident of Bingham County where he has worked and raised 13 children with his wife Karla.
“Bingham County is a wonderful place to raise a family,” said West. “We have excellent schools, dedicated teachers and a strong work ethic in our agricultural community. I love Bingham County and want to help ensure it remains a wonderful place to live and work.”
With a degree in communications from Brigham Young University and over 25 years of experience in leadership and management, West has worked as a human resource professional for two local potato processing companies and served as the Southeast Idaho President of the Society for Human Resource Management. Most recently, West has employed his leadership skills as the manager of the Idaho Physicians Clinic in Blackfoot.
West has served as president of the Blackfoot Kiwanis Club, as Assistant District Commissioner in the Blackfoot District of the Boy Scouts of America, and for the past decade has coordinated the free Shriner’s Clinics in Blackfoot. Additionally, he is currently serving as Mission Delivery Chair for the Blackfoot Relay for Life.
“That is what makes America great,” West said, concerning service in the community. “Getting involved in the community, whether it is in public service or community service, we have the opportunity to get off the sidelines and make a difference.”
Because of West’s extensive background in human resources and leadership, he said he will bring refreshing and dynamic experience to the office of county commissioner.
“I believe an elected official has the responsibility to know the needs and wishes of the citizens they serve,” said West. “And this can only be done by being available to your constituents — listening, not talking — and then doing what’s right. A person who holds elected office should be a person of integrity and leave personal agendas outside the government office, which is what I pledge to do for the citizens of Bingham County.”
