The American Falls High School softball team dropped two games last week. Playing Marsh Valley on Wednesday, April 23, the Beavers fell in the later innings 16-7 and then were shut out by the Lady Panthers of Snake River on Friday, April 25, 11-0.

It was the final inning of the game that knocked the Beavers out of the game against Marsh Valley.

“We never felt like we were out of the game until the last inning when we let it get away from us,” said Coach Eric Morris.

Morris said mistakes and mental lapses are usually to blame, but Marsh Valley is a tough team.

“All season long getting the offense going consistently and errors have been what lost games for us. This game Marsh Valley wanted it more than we did. We have only played a couple of teams that have out-played us and this was one of them,” Morris said.

Despite the final score the Beavers had a strong offensive effort with Georgie Richardson and Micala Gillespie scoring in the third inning. Erynn Winder picked up a single run in the fourth and Jackie Vargas, Madyson Cutler, Riley Morris and Ryan Hohenfield scored in the fifth.

Hosting Snake River was tough for the Beavers. Morris said the team stranded too many runners on base.

“We left seven girls on base and had opportunities, but just could not capitalize on them,” said Morris.

The Beavers will host Bear Lake High School tonight, Wednesday, April 30, for senior night starting at 4 p.m.
