“K.C.” Kevin Carlton Fortney, St George, UT, age 22, passed away in his home on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013.
KC was born on Oct. 13, 1990 in Pocatello, ID, to Kevin and Marie Duffin Fortney. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was sealed to his family in the Logan Temple in 1992. KC was ordained a Priest.
His early childhood was spent in Idaho Falls, Albuquerque, and St George. He attended Pine View Middle School, loved taking art while at Tuacahn High School, and was a student at Dixie State College.
KC’s love of art continued through his twenties as he advanced his skills and created many beautiful pieces of art. Although KC had his own personal struggles he continued to work through his struggles using art and music as therapy and occupation.
He is survived by his mother and father, Kevin and Marie Fortney, his siblings, Grace 21, Jessica 21, Marcus 20, Meagan 17, all living in St. George, except for Marcus who is serving a mission in Guadalajara, Mexico. Grandparents are Ruth Udell Fortney of Carlsbad, CA, and Vern and Marilyn Duffin of Boise, ID.
He is preceded in death by his grandfather John Fortney, and his older brother who died at birth, John Vern Fortney.
KC loved his family and friends dearly. His big smile, warmth, and generous spirit was felt by everyone around him. His love for long boarding, motorcycling, and playing the guitar with his friends brought him great joy. Being the protector of his brother, sisters, and friends was always his heart’s desire.
Funeral services will be on Friday, March 8, at 11 a.m. at the Washington Field’s Stake Center (1295 S 3000 E St. George, UT) with a viewing that morning from 9 to 10:30 a.m. There will also be a viewing Thursday, March 7, from 6 to 7:30 p.m at the same location.
