Efren Franco snuck away quietly and peacefully Dec. 17, 2014 at Gateway Transitional Center in Pocatello, Idaho after a long struggle with kidney disease. We take great comfort in knowing he is no longer in pain and is reunited with his previously passed loved ones.
Efren was born March 24, 1951 in Julimes, Chihuahua Mexico to Alberto Franco and Ignacia Salgado. He was the youngest son of 12 brothers and sisters. As a young man he participated in rodeo shows, worked on the family farm and loved to ride horses. He migrated to the United States at a young age and worked in agriculture then went back to Mexico to marry the love of his life, Virginia Hernandez Franco. They had three children, Yvette Franco Serna, Olga Franco Quintero and Alberto Franco. Alberto Franco returned to his creator after only three months of life. He was also the proud owner of his dog Chiwita whom he spoiled immensely.
Efren was a wonderful cook, he enjoyed having people over for big dinners and hoped to pass that on to his family. He spent many hours outside gardening alongside his grandchildren teaching them everything he could. He had a wonderful childlike spirit and loved to make people laugh. He was always eager to help people in need and never turned anyone away.
Efren’s pride and joy are his eight grandchildren, Josue Serna, LeRoy Serna, Raquel Sarai Serna, Ezekiel Quintero, Santiago Quintero, Elizabeth Sarai Quintero, Juan Alberto Quintero and Mathew Efren Quintero. He instilled many life lessons to each of them and showed them how much he loved them any chance he had. His biggest message was to never give up and to take care of each other. He was a dialysis patient for over eight years and fought for his life so he could be with his wife, girls and grandchildren. We are all very fortunate to have had him in our lives and will miss his laughter and smile till we can be with him again.
Funeral services were held Monday Dec. 22, 2014 at Templo Emanuel in American Falls.
