As legislature begins, leaders worry about possible tax cuts

A proposition to lower tax revenues from personal property taxes once again has local government officials up in arms.

Businesses pay personal property tax on business equipment worth more than $100,000 as a whole. The proposition would raise the exemption from $100,000 to $250,000. County officials are worried that the state will not replace the funding the county receives from that tax.

“This is definitely something that they are planning, but they weren’t specific about replacement dollars,” said Ron Funk, chair of the Power County commission.

If the proposed bill passes, the county would lose about $94,000, figured the Power County Assessor’s office. That will be split among ten different taxing districts. …

    Less taxes is always good for people….Not for the government,though….
