Throw out the old, bond election workgroup tells school district

Building a new school, rather than restoring an old one, was preferred by many who attended a work group session put on by the American Falls School District.

Last year, the district pushed a bond to restore the American Falls Intermediate School. But it did not pass, sending the district back to the drawing board. Since then, they have turned to community workgroups for ideas.

The district presented three possible plans at the most recent workgroup meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 24. One was to restore and expand the existing fourth and fifth grade buildings at the American Falls Intermediate School. Another would expand and remodel only the fourth grade building and demolish the fifth grade building.

But the most popular plan was to build an entirely new building that hooks to the existing intermediate school gym and demolishes both the fourth and fifth grade buildings. Many attendees voiced their opinion that having a more secure, single-story building was preferable to remodeling an old, two-story building….
