City will develop a pre-treatment program for wastewater

Council member Craig Wampler reported that DEQ (Department of Environmental Quality) is requiring a pre-treatment program for the wastewater treatment plant. He reported this to those in attendance, Denise Wahlen, Brian Schneider, Mary Leisy and Alan Summers, at the meeting held Tuesday, March 8.

Wampler said the pre-treatment program is basically a program to determine what is allowed to come into the treatment plant, how much is allowed, and what penalty will be assessed if not followed. They city council will need to determine how much is too much and the penalties.

He said they will look at samples taken now and in the past and see if there are other places the city may want to monitor, such as excess grease, oil and other things in the water system. …
