Aberdeen Tiger tracksters do well at district meet


Eighteen head to state

Aberdeen hosted the 2A District track meet on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 10 and 11, for the first time in about 40 years. Both the boys and the girls’ teams did well. Eighteen of the athletes will head to state on Friday and Saturday, May 20 and 21 at Middleton.

Those heading to state are Chris Funk in the 100 m, 200m, 4x100m and 4x200m; Jared Carrasco in the 400m, 4x100m, 4x200m and 4x400m; Hulizes Ortiz in the long jump, 4x100m, 4x200m and 4x400m; Matthew Klassen in the 200m, 4x100m and 4x200m; Victor Klassen in the 110m hurdles and the 300m hurdles; Jake Hall in the high jump and the 110m hurdles; Dallon Elliott in the 4x400m; Bryson Foster in the pole vault and the 4x400m; Cesar Cerna in shot put and discus; Hilario Carrillo in shot put; Javier Urive in discus; Makenna Schritter in long jump and 4x200m; Betty Carrillo in shot put; Destanie Ponce in 400m and 4x200m; Rosa Palacios in 200m and 4x200m; Hannah Wright in the 4x200m, Kawehi Beck and Jasmine Barajas.

Individual results on the girls’ team:

In the 100 meter dash Rosa Palacios took fourth place with a time of 14.01 and Makenna Schritter took fifth place with a time of 14.09.

In the 200 meter dash Rosa Palacios took second place with a time of 27.96 and Destanie Ponce took fourth place with a time of 28.25.

In the 400 meter dash Destanie Ponce took second place with a time of 1:04.78. Kawehi Beck also ran the 400 meter dash but no time was recorded for her.

In the 1600 meter run Jasmine Barajas placed sixth with a time of 6:25.28. There was not time recorded for Jimena Serna.

In the 100 meter hurdles Hannah Wright placed fifth with a time of 18.05. She also placed fourth in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 52.98.

In the 4×100 meter relay Aberdeen’s team took fourth place with a time of 56.78; Team members were Kawehi Beck, Rosa Palacios, Destanie Ponce and Makenna Schritter.
