Petersen keeps prosecutor seat in primary election

In a heated local race in Power County’s Republican primary, Prosecutor Ryan Petersen kept his position after being challenged by Power County Conflict Public Defender Abe Luca. Petersen had 628 votes to Luca’s 301.

Because both were running as Republicans, and because there are no other challengers in the race, the seat was decided in the primary.

It was the only contested race for county positions that was decided just in the primary. Republican Power County Commissioner Delane Anderson received 855 votes with no primary challenger, but will face off against independent Lynn Scherer in the general election in November.

Commissioner Bill Lasley received 862 votes, and has no opposition in the primary or in November. Sheriff Jim Jeffries received …
