Last month Aberdeen High School mathematics teacher, Diana Sargent, served as a teacher-mentor for the Idaho Science and Aerospace Scholars (ISAS) Summer Academy. ISAS is a competitive program that allows high school juniors to take an interactive online course with NASA developed curriculum related to space exploration that teaches a broad range of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) skills aligned with Idaho Content Standards.
The ISAS Summer Academy is offered to select students. At the seven-day residential summer academy, students were exposed to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) mentors and master educators at Boise State University and NASA Ames Research Center in California. Students at the academy undertook a mentored team simulated human mission to Mars and were immersed in hands-on Idaho STEM activities….
