To the editor,
On Oct. 31 a sizeable group gathered to celebrate and dedicate a remarkable rock monument at Sportsman’s Park. The monument is in recognition of the dream of several men to create the first boat landing ramp of the area. This was a large undertaking at the beginning of World War II. With much hard work the dream was realized.
Over the years, many have contributed to ongoing improvements to the park to make it the outstanding and enjoyable facility that it is. Many would travel a fair distance to enjoy a multi-function park like we have in our “backyard”.
So, dreaming is a start. Years ago and as a young man, I envisioned building a causeway across to the peninsula. This would create a constant level lake fed by natural springs. It would require a boat landing beyond the dam. This causeway would accommodate traffic to the fine restaurant, surrounded by water at the south end of the nine hole golf course. (This is many years before we had our nine hole course in town.) Maybe combine them to create a most unusual 18 hole course?
Dreaming is the easy part.
