Rockland girls play in Aberdeen tournament

The Rockland High School girls’ basketball team played three games at the winter break tournament in Aberdeen.

The Lady Bulldogs faced off against North Fremont the first day of the tournament, on Tuesday, Dec. 27. Rockland came off of the Christmas break slow, with North Fremont taking the win 52-24. North Fremont controlled the game for the first three quarters, scoring in the double digits each quarter while holding Rockland to single digits.

“North Fremont is a good team, but we didn’t play well. We were sluggish,” said Coach Vern Nelson.

Madalyin Permann led the team with 11 points. Also scoring was Sarah Wood with five, Aly Lish with three, Eryn Parrish with two, Kariena Turnbeaugh with one, Brook Freeman with one and Riley Jensen with one.

The next day, Rockland had better luck against Hagerman, with Rockland staying in control of the game and winning 39-15. A strong first and third quarter propelled the Lady Bulldogs ahead, while Hagerman struggled against Rockland’s defense…
