A dark blue to green substance has coated the western shore of the American Falls Reservoir over the past few days. One explanation may be cyanobacteria, a type of bacteria that mimics algae blooms and feeds off phosphorus. Often called blue-green algae the cyanobacteria’s peak blooming season is late August to early September.
