Larry P. Olberding
Larry P. Olberding, 60, of Connell, WA, died suddenly, but peacefully, on his farm, on Wednesday, March 12, 2008.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Sally.
Larry was born Oct. 14, 1947 in Emmett, ID, to Paul and Sally (Heidy) Olberding. He was the second child, the oldest son.
Larry moved to the Columbia Basin with his parents and older sister, Linda, in 1954. He attended school in Connell and graduated in 1965.
He met his wife Judy at Connell High School. They married on April 23, 1966, and spent 42 good years together.
Larry farmed with his father, Paul, in Block 11 and raised four children. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Othello, coached Little League, was a Webelos den leader, member of Franklin County Cattlemen’s Association, assistant superintendent at the Benton Franklin Fair and longtime supporter of 4-H/FFA kids.
Larry loved his farm, but his family was his top priority. His hours upon hours of wrestling and playing with his children and grandchildren will always be fondly remembered.
He and Judy did almost everything together, were best friends and true soul mates. There will be a huge, empty space at all future family get togethers.
God sent a rough and tough cowboy to gently love and guide us. We miss you, we love you.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Judy, who lives on the farm in Connell; his son, Larry Jr. (Chris) Olberding of Pasco, WA; his daughters, Angie (David) Manterola of Pasco, Shiann (Edward) Finley of Albuquerque, NM, and Desiree (Andy) Hall of American Falls.
His grandchildren include Amanda La Porte, Samantha La Porte, Dakota Olberding, SalliRose Manterola, Jake Manterola, Ty Manterola, Chase Olberding, Micheal Finley, Phillip Finley, Eddie Jr. Finley, Alexandra Hall and Brandon Hall.
His brothers include Fred (Edie) Olberding of Pasco, Allen (Cheryl) Olberding of Pasco; sisters, Linda Hindmarch of Pasco, Barbara Olberding of Portland, OR, and Heidi (Graeme) Scott of Victoria, Australia.
He also is survived by several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
His family would also like to mention Scott Courneya and Mike Pink, who he considered his “adopted” sons.
Memorials can be made in Larry’s name to the National MS Society or Lourdes Counseling Center.
A Holy Rosary was held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Eltopia, on Sunday, March 16, at 6 p.m.
Funeral Mass was held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Eltopia, on Monday, March 17, at 11 a.m.
