Members of the American Legion, Sons of the American Legion, and the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary gathered at the Idaho Fish and Game American Falls Fish Hatchery on Saturday, Oct. 26, to retire unserviceable flags. Hundreds of American flags were gathered for disposal. Flags that are damaged and not repairable to original condition are removed from service by burning after inspection by Legion members and a ceremony consecrating the retirement of each flag. The Idaho Fish and Game offered the location for the ceremony as well as the use of their burn permit.
