Kevin Eugene Udy, 46, died on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, in an automobile accident near his home of Carlsbad, NM.
Kevin was born in Torrance, CA, on May 2, 1963 to Leo Carlyle Udy and Rhea Barlow Udy. Kevin’s early childhood was spent in Huntington Beach, CA, then moving to Centralia, WA. He graduated from Centralia High School in 1981. In high school he was a varsity wrestler and earned his Eagle Scout. He attended Centralia College before serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Atlanta, GA. Kevin finished his education, graduating from the University of Washington in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He worked in the cement and mining industries during his career from Washington, California, Utah and New Mexico. He was employed by Intrepid Potash, east of Carlsbad, NM.
Kevin’s marriage to JoLynn Kershaw blessed his life with five wonderful children: Scott, who is serving in the Coast Guard; Sarah, who is attending nursing school; Devin, who is serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Indianapolis, IN; Landon, a senior in high school; and Emily, a high school junior. Kevin was happily married to Susan Hall on Dec. 31 2008. He felt blessed to include his stepson, Eric Dennett, as one of his children.
Kevin has always loved vehicles, from his first red fire engine peddle car, to his Mustangs and most recently, Broncos. He especially enjoyed restoring his vehicles and taking his Broncos to out of the way places -- and especially working along with his boys.
Kevin’s greatest hobby was other people. He enjoyed meeting and talking with everyone he met. His people skills brought success to his career and his personal life. He was very positive and had a great sense of humor. His teasing will be dearly missed.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Susan Udy (Hall) of Carlsbad, NM; five children, Scott, Sarah, Devin, Landon, and Emily, all of Apple Valley, CA; and a stepson, Eric Dennett of Riverton, UT. He also leaves behind his parents, Leo and Rhea Udy and two brothers, Lon (Carleen) and Craig (Julia).
