Grant Melvin Beck

Grant Melvin Beck, 78, of St. George, UT, died Wednesday, April 1, 2015, peacefully in his sleep. He was born to the late Grant and Erma Beck, Jan. 21, 1937 in Aberdeen, ID.

Mel graduated from Aberdeen High School, served a two-year mission in Canada for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was an active member at the time of his death. He served in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany from 1960-1962 and in the Army National Guard of Utah for two additional years.

Following his years of service, he worked primarily in sales, including insurance, his Bernina sewing store, and most recently sales and service for vending machine routes.

Mel loved playing and watching sports throughout his life but his favorite by far was golfing. In his prime, he golfed as much as he could and participated in many tournaments. Mel loved to eat, but above all he loved chocolate in any shape or form.

Mel is survived by five children: Laurie Beck (Tim) of Tacoma, WA; Kim Gapp (Doug) of Las Vegas, NV; Doug Beck (Tanyia), and Derek Beck, both of Layton, UT; and Sean Burkley of New York; and by nine grandchildren.

Mel is also survived by his sister Lucille (Lowell), his sister-in-law Polly (Brother Howard-deceased), dear friend Jean Holder, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services will be on Saturday, April 18, at 9 a.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 South 4th Avenue, Pocatello, ID 93201. Following, the burial will take place at the Aberdeen cemetery.
