I can now count the days on one hand until I’m a married man. Even typing it out doesn’t really set in for me. I’m sure when I finally realize that I will be married, it will all come to me like a flash flood, but for now, I’m still in calm waters.

For part of our reception we are going to do a slideshow of younger photos of Adriana and I. Looking through some of the photos, I don’t notice much difference from then to now. I still see myself as an awkward kid with chubby cheeks and scrawny arms.

Adriana and I have been so swamped with wedding planning that I’m afraid I might not know what to do with myself once it’s all said and done. We squeezed in some time a few nights ago to watch one of my favorite chick flicks, Ghost, with Demi Moore as Molly and Patrick Swayze as Sam. Don’t ask how it became one of my top films but I just remember seeing it as a kid and loved the plot, as ridiculous as it may seem. Adriana never saw it until she started hanging out with me. I told her to watch it and she enjoyed it quite a bit, too. We got to the end of the movie… spoiler alerts ahead… never mind it’s 25 years old, if you don’t know how it goes, get out from under the rock you’ve been living in. Back to the movie, Molly complains at the beginning of the movie that Sam never says, “I love you” to her. He always says “ditto”. Throughout the movie Sam tries to convince Molly that he’s there to help her and she’s in danger. She finally sees him after he saves her from some crooks and he tells her “I love you, Molly… I’ve always loved you,” and Molly responds, “Ditto.”

Queue the waterworks.

I turned and looked at Adriana and, behind all the state-of-the-art graphics in that movie, her eyes were covered in salty tears. I’m not going to say I wasn’t touched, but I don’t do much crying in movies… part of being a guy, I guess. I have to mention that she was a trooper and watched consecutive cheesy scary movies with me the week before so we were due for a change of genre.

It’s funny because Adriana and I catch ourselves stealing lines from movies and songs and “ditto” is one of them. She also let me try on my wedding ring and on the inside is engraved “I need your love” which is from the song off the movie. I’ve always believed that you don’t have to say “I love you” to show someone you love them. Adriana didn’t really say she loved me for a while after I did, but I could tell by the way she treated me and cared for me, it was there. When she finally said it I was fist-pumping and doing all kinds of things Preston would do.

Next week, I will no longer be a single/engaged man, I also will be happier than I’ve ever been in my entire life. I experience great day after great day and sometimes I get to a certain day and look back at it and think, “That was the best day of my life.” And then a day or two later Adriana surpasses herself and gives me an even better day. We’ve had our disagreements on things, like which way to hang shirts in a closet, but I’ve never been around a person as similar and unique as I am.

See you all on the other side!

Only a few days left, Adriana. Oh, and by the way, “Ditto”.

Thanks for reading!
