Water rates head up after A.F. city council meeting

Water rates will soon rise in American Falls after city council members approved a rate increase that will boost businesses to $40 or more a month depending on the size of the pipe running into each business. For some businesses, the increase will be minimal, but for others, it could be significant. Residential rates went up to $40 as well, up from $36.86 a month per household.
Before a public hearing on the water rates on Wednesday, Aug. 17, the council held an open house on its plan to replace aging water lines. The water line replacement is the main reason for the rate increases. While a few citizens voiced their opinions at the open house, no citizens testified before the council during the public hearing.
