Helen Elaine Hagar

1932-2013

Helen Elaine Hagar, 81, of Boise passed away at home on June 13, 2013.

Helen was born in McPherson, KS, to Otis Carl and Johanna Roseberg. She grew up in American Falls, ID, graduated from American Falls High School and attended Link’s Business College In Pocatello, ID.

Helen began her employment with the Idaho Power Company in American Falls in 1951. She transferred to the Boise Office in 1963, working as a customer service representative until her retirement in 1986. Following her retirement, Helen continued to enjoy regular lunches with “the gals from the power company.”

Helen married Theodore (Ted) Hagar on May 28, 1970. They were a devoted couple for nearly 40 years until Ted’s death in February 2010.

Helen and Ted enjoyed traveling extensively in the U.S. and abroad. Helen loved playing bridge. She was very active as a volunteer for a number of organizations including Saint Alphonsus Auxiliary, Assistance League of Boise, and the Boise Schools. She was a member at King of Glory Lutheran Church where she also volunteered in various capacities as recently as the Friday preceding her death.

Helen was a beautiful, gracious and generous woman who touched others with her warm smiles, strong hugs, and attentive listening. Throughout an extended battle with congestive heart failure, Helen met every day with gratitude and dedicated her strength and energy to enjoying life and reaching out to friends and loved ones. She will be deeply missed by many.

Helen is survived by her three siblings: Leland (Greta) Roseberg, Carol (Stanley) Lehman and Lorin (Nancy) Roseberg; Ted’s children, Christine (Tim) Gleason and Kenneth Hagar; granddaughters, Kayla Gleason (John Parsell) and Kendra (John) Wheeler; and three great-granddaughters. Helen is also survived by her nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

A memorial service will take place at King of Glory Lutheran Church, 3430 N Maple Grove Road, Boise, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 20. Private graveside services will be held earlier. Arrangements are under the direction of Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, Boise. Donations may be made to King of Glory Church or a favorite charity.
