Phyllis Goral Scott, 91

Phyllis (Felicya Irina Goral) Scott, 91, Pingree, died Sunday, June 22, 2014, at Saint Alphonsus Medical Center in Ontario, Oregon from a heart attack.

She was born March 14, 1923 in Franklin, Venango, Pennsylvania to John and Anna Goral, Polish immigrants. She was the fourth child and second daughter with five brothers and three sisters.

During the time the United States was involved in World War II, Phyllis joined the Army to help the country and see the world. She was sent to Fort Oglethorpe in Georgia for six weeks training as a medical and surgical technician. She was shipped to Spokane, Washington. It was at the Army hospital in Spokane that she met her future husband, Harris Doyle Scott. They were married February 25, 1947 in Olympia, Washington. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on August 28, 1952.

She worked as a substitute mailman in Pingree and was employed by Idaho Supreme in Firth and later by J.R. Simplot in Aberdeen until she retired in 1984. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, fishing, reading and seeing new places. She was the Girls Camp leader for many years in the Pingree Ward. She also served as counselor in the Primary and as Blazer Leader. Her favorite Polish saying to her great-grandchildren was, “daj mi buzi”, which means “Give me a kiss”.

Survivors include: one son, Bruce G. Scott, of Boise, Idaho; five daughters, Marinda Vilate Estep, of Boise, Chrystine Wheatley, of Ontario, Oregon, Marietta Chipman, of Idaho Falls, Elizabeth Scott, of Meridian, Irene Shackelford, of Aberdeen; 19 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Steve Goral, of Orange City, California and sister, Pauline Lavery, of Sunnyvale, California.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harris Doyle Scott, one infant daughter, Ann Carol, her parents, four brothers and two sisters.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 12 Noon Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Riverside-Thomas Cemetery. The family will meet with friends and relatives from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. prior to services at Hawker Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family at: www.hawkerfuneralhome.com.
