Boyd Harold Nelson

1920-2015

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and brother, Boyd Harold Nelson, 94, passed away peacefully Friday, Feb. 13, 2015 in American Falls, Idaho, surrounded by his family.

Born August 8, 1920 in Nephi, Utah to Joseph Fritchof and Lois Carver Nelson. Married Orena Johnson August 17, 1942 in Ely, Nevada; solemnized August 14, 1969 in Salt Lake LDS Temple. She passed away on September 21, 1999. He married Maureen England on Feb. 8, 2002 in Green Valley, AZ. Lived in Nephi and Delta, UT; Twin Falls and American Falls, ID. Later in life he split his time between American Falls, ID and Green Valley, AZ. He served in the US Navy during World War II.

Boyd’s lifelong work was in the lumber business, beginning in high school. He worked for Tri-State Lumber and Boise Cascade before owning Boyd’s Building Supply in American Falls, ID for many years. He was active in the community through business and civic service. He was elected to the American Falls City Council and later served on the Board of his condo association in Green Valley, AZ. Lifelong member of the LDS church, he served many years as ward clerk. Boyd was a pilot and loved to travel, golf, fishing, boating, reading, and crosswords. Most of all he loved sharing those activities with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survived by wife, Maureen, American Falls, ID; two children: Karen (Steve) Selcho, and Joel (Connie), of Salt Lake City; six grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren. Survived by one brother, J.R. Nelson; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Orena; brother, Glen Nelson; sister, Barbara Johnson; and great-granddaughter, Ainslee Butterfield.

A viewing will be held in American Falls Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 650 Pocatello Avenue, American Falls, Idaho, with a short funeral service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held in Salt Lake City on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Olympus Stake Center, 2675 East 4430 South with viewing 10-10:45 a.m. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, Salt Lake City.
