Thomas Preston Osterhout, 93, of Idaho Falls, Idaho passed away Friday, June 19, 2015 at the Idaho State Veterans’ Home in Pocatello. He was under the care of Heritage Hospice.
Preston was born Aug. 12, 1921 in Declo, ID, to Thomas Alvin Osterhout and Minnie Preston Osterhout.
Preston graduated from American Falls High School in 1940.
He served in the US Navy during WWII as a radioman on a submarine torpedo boat, the USS Pargo.
On Sept. 20, 1942, he married the love of his life, Christina “Tina” Roth, in American Falls, ID. Preston was a sales representative in Idaho Falls for Hansen Irrigation. He spent two years in Saudi Arabia overseeing a large irrigation installation. Preston retired at the age of 65. He spent his remaining years enjoying many activities with Tina and their children.
Among some of the things Preston enjoyed were woodworking, gardening, reading, fishing and golfing.
Preston was a most loving, compassionate and honest person to all he came in contact with. He will be greatly missed.
Surviving Preston is his wife of 72 years, Christina Roth Osterhout; daughter, Cheryl (Don) Storer of Fresno, CA; sons, James Dean (Carol) Osterhout of Swan Valley, ID, Darrell (Susan) Osterhout of Fresno, CA, and Charles Roth (Cheryl Wade) Osterhout of Idaho Falls; grandchildren, Joey (Shelly) Storer, Sally (Carlos) Flores, Heidi Osterhout, Kenly Osterhout, Desa Osterhout, Colton and Celine Osterhout; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Daniel, Gabriel and Isaiah Flores; Jylian Simkins and Alayla Osterhout; Christopher, Anthony, Isabel and Kilian Storer; Cody, Marcus and Aidan Osterhout; brothers, Nile Osterhout of San Jose, CA, and Blair (Lynn) Osterhout of Boise, ID.
Besides his parents, Preston is preceded in death by a brother, Grant Osterhout.
Funeral services were held, Saturday, June 27, at 1 p.m. at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls, ID, with Ron Derrick, State of Idaho American Legion Chaplain officiating. The family visited with friends one hour prior to the services at the mortuary. Private inurnment will take place at a later date at the Swan Valley Cemetery in Swan Valley, ID.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations may be made to the Idaho State Veterans Home, 1957 Alvin Ricken Dr., Pocatello, Idaho, 83201-2727; 208-235-7800.
