Betty Groesbeck

Heaven is rejoicing as it welcomes a very special angel. Betty Galloway Freeman Groesbeck, 90, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2015, surrounded by her loving family.

Mom was born on Nov. 27, 1924 to George S. and Edna (Hubbard) Galloway. She was the youngest of seven children. Born and raised in American Falls, ID, she graduated from high school in 1942 and lived there except for brief periods in her life until 1966.

Mom married Robert W. Freeman in 1943 and they had two daughters. The marriage ended in divorce and mom raised her two girls on her own (with help from her parents who she was also caring for) until 1966 when she married Lee B. Groesbeck, an engineer she had met while they were working together for the Department of Agriculture. Dad died on Oct. 18, 2000.

Everyone who met mom loved her and she loved everyone. We can’t even begin to name the people who called her “Mom” or “Grandma” and we loved sharing her. Mom had been in the hospital for a week or so prior to her death, and there she still managed to charm the doctors, nurses and aides.

Mom is survived by her daughters, Sandra Freeman, Chubbuck, and Vicky and Ralph Grigg, Pocatello. She is also survived by her step-children, Boyd Groesbeck (Carline), Paula McKie and Walt and SuYin Groesbeck. She also has many step-grandchildren, but she didn’t believe in the “step” part and she loved them all. She also has many very special nieces and nephews who were very much a part of her life.

She was preceded in death by all of her siblings and their spouses, Willena and Joe Blaser, Loretta and Earl Taylor, Fleta and Lafe Parrish, Bonnie and Oscar Rice, Ray and Beulah Galloway and Dorothy and Del Wilde. She was also predeceased by a step-daughter, Marilyn Juskiewicz, and nieces and nephews who she loved so much.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 11 a.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave., Pocatello, ID 83201, 208-233-1500, with a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. before services. Family met with friends on Friday, Oct. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m., also at Colonial Funeral Home. Burial followed at the Falls View Cemetery in American Falls.

Condolences can be made to the family online at www.colonial-funeralhome.com.
