Richard Marvin Parrish, 81, of Meridian, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014, at home of natural causes.
Marvin was born Nov. 21, 1932, in Aberdeen, a son of Richard (Dick) and Eva Parrish. He graduated from Aberdeen High School. He farmed in the Aberdeen area until 1968. He married Barbara Varley in 1953. She preceded him in death in 1993. He married Ruth Horsch Gambill in 1994.
In 1972, he moved with his family to the Boise area. He worked for the State of Idaho, first as a meat inspector trainer and then as the Animal Health Inspector. He retired in December of 1993.
Marvin was a lifetime farmer, first on his family’s farm, which he took over after graduating from high school. After leaving the farm he continued to raise calves and horses. He participated in activities with horses including the Aberdeen Boots and Saddle Club, Team Penning and 4H leadership.
Marvin made friends with anyone he met. Marvin’s family was the most important part of his life. He taught many family members to ride horses. Family gatherings were great events in his life.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; sons, Richard and Mark (Rebecca); daughter, Kathleen Clark (Gene); brother, Verne Parrish; sister, Karen Norskog; step-children, Vince Gambill, Valarie Nichols (Clif) and Lorie Huskey (Randolph). Grandchildren included Mark, Michael, Christopher, Barbara, Jodi and Julie. Jared, Matthew, Noah, Dustin, Jessie and Dale also called him Grandpa. His survivors also include ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Effie Lamoreux, Jeanette Tarbet, Gwen O’Brien, and brother, Even Parrish. His extended family and many friends will miss his influence in their lives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, at the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, Boise. Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30 at the Aberdeen, Idaho Cemetery. Friends visited at the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel on Sunday, Sept. 28th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
