Lois Wedel

Lois Wedel passed away at Spring Creek Manor on Wednesday, April 15, 2015. Lois was born and raised on a farm west of Aberdeen on Jan. 19, 1923 to Frank and Anna Wenger. She lived all her life in and around Aberdeen, moving only 3/4 of a mile when she married Maurice Wedel on April 5, 1946. She lived on the farm until moving into Aberdeen to live in senior housing with the “golden girls at the plaza,” until her move to Spring Creek in 2013.

Lois graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1941 and then attended the Bible Institute of Los Angeles. She then attended and graduated from nursing school at Bethel Deaconess Hospital in Newton, KS, as a Registered Nurse. Following her return to Idaho, she worked at Schultz and Harms Memorial Hospitals in American Falls. One of the accomplishments of her professional career was in 1946 when she was asked by Idaho State University to teach a class of students who would, with a year’s training become Licensed Practical Nurses. She was delighted when they all passed their state boards and she said she had studied as hard as they had. She used her nursing skills in the community as she coordinated many Red Cross blood drives.

Lois was a life-long member of First Mennonite Church. She was active in the education, music, and women’s ministries of the church as well as serving in offices of the Pacific District Conference.

Lois and her husband Maurice lived on a farm southwest of Aberdeen where they were the parents of four children. Lois was preceded in death by her daughter, Marilyn; her husband, Maurice; her parents; her brothers, Arthur and Carl; and her sister, Elma. She is survived by David Wedel, Aberdeen, ID; Ruth Meinke, Bonner Springs, KS; and Mary Louise Ruef, Franklin, IN; as well as eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

There will be a memorial service at First Mennonite Church in Aberdeen at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22. Greeting with family will follow at the fellowship hall with light refreshments.
