Valera Mae (Tiahrt) Maisch

Valera Mae (Tiahrt) Maisch, born May 24, 1918 in Aberdeen to Henry and Nettie Tiahrt, passed peacefully on Friday, Sept. 11, 2015 in Rifle, CO. Valera (Val) married her high school sweetheart Fred Maisch in November 1939. She and Fred resided in Aberdeen where they farmed and later both worked for the University of Idaho Agriculture Research Extension Center. Following their retirement they spent a number of years wintering in Scottsdale, AZ until 1993 when they moved to Battlement Mesa, CO.

Val’s interests included watching college and professional basketball on TV, reading Christian literature and playing her beloved card games including her favorite game of duplicate bridge. She was an active member and servant of the Grand Valley Methodist Church in Parachute, CO and the First Mennonite Church in Aberdeen.

Val is survived by her sister, Joyce Voshell, Idaho Falls, and her children; Roger, Aberdeen, Sue (Jim Seibert) of Glenwood Springs, CO, David (Jeannie) of Olathe, KS, and Judith Shackelford, Boise. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Preceding Val in death were her parents; a sister, Betty Lou, a brother, Kenneth, a daughter Mary Ann Jessup (Don) St. George, UT, and her best friend and most loving husband Fred.

Val will be most remembered for her quick wit, her unconditional love and compassion for others, her forthrightness and most importantly her deep love for God. She will be loved and missed by all.

She will be laid to rest at the Homestead Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17. Friends are welcome to join the family at the graveside service.

Memorial donations may be made to Grandview Valley United Methodist church in Parachute, CO or a charity of the donor’s choice.
