DeVon Stallings Lowder

DeVon Stallings Lowder, 86, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015, at his home, near Aberdeen, from natural causes.

DeVon was born May 25, 1929 in Lewisville, Idaho to Harold Lowder and Ada Stallings Lowder. He spent his early years and was educated in Lewisville, Idaho.

DeVon served an LDS mission to the South Central States for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. During this time he gained a strong belief in the gospel he was teaching. He actively served his church throughout his life.

DeVon married his sweetheart Shirlene Elison on June 20, 1952 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Together they lived in the Lewisville and Idaho Falls area and then moved to Aberdeen where they operated a family farm and dairy. After 48 years of marriage, Shirlene passed away. After being widowed for several years he found love again and married Barbara Johnson on July 10, 2010 and together they spent their retirement years in Aberdeen. Family was always important to Devon and he loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

DeVon was a hard worker, He farmed with two of his brothers, Delwin and Everett, as Lowder Brothers. Together they farmed and operated a dairy. He found joy and satisfaction working with the labors of his hands.

DeVon found joy in the simple things, a sharp pocket knife, classic automobiles, a well-kept woodpile, a warm fire on a cold night and a newborn calf. Later in his life he found joy in baking goodies for others and became well known for his divinity and, by the grandkids, for the chocolate chip cookies.

DeVon is survived by his wife, Barbara Lowder, of Aberdeen; children Val (Debbie) of Idaho Falls, ID; Vicky (Andrew) Kunkel of Evans, CO; Ricky (Sue) of Roy, UT; Bruce (Connie) of Caldwell; Ronnie (Peggy) of Aberdeen, ID; Bobby (Wendy) of Rupert; Peggy (Gabriel) Maciel of Grants Pass, OR; Jalyn (Rueben) Castaneda of Lewisville, ID; Marla (Bonnie) of North Pole, AK; stepson Mark (Debbie) Rewerts of Chenoa, IL; foster daughter Peggy Bowden (Bob) of Bountiful, UT; 35 grandchildren; 52 great grandchildren; three brothers, Lyle Lowder of Rexburg; Delwin Lowder of Wellsville, UT and Everett Lowder of Idaho Falls, ID.

DeVon was preceded in death by his wife Shirlene Elison Lowder, his son Shirl, and his parents Harold and Ada Lowder, grandson Steven Lowder, foster son Joe Thorpe and foster granddaughter Lindsay Thorpe.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 2015 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Aberdeen 2nd Ward Chapel, 149 Central Ave in Aberdeen. The family met with friends and relatives at the church from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2015 and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services.
